Obituary: Mabel Ruth Blosser Reed

Mabel Ruth Blosser Reed, 86, of Cincinnati, OH, was called home by her Lord and Savior on Friday, September 24, 2010. She passed peacefully in her home surrounded by family.

Mabel was born to the late Gertrude Florence Davis and Frank Lawrence Blosser in Morgantown, WV. She was the third youngest of nine children, and was preceded in death by all of her siblings. She was born prematurely and weighed in at a mere 2lbs 2oz, and had nothing but a shoe box and warm stove for an incubator.

Mabel was a devoted Christian, who was always quick to recognize the many blessings from the Lord, even a simple song of the Robin or beautiful fall foliage. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and was sealed for time and all eternity to her loving husband, Jack Norman Reed, in the Columbus, OH Temple.

Born on the 4th of July, Mabel was proud to share her birthday celebrations with the country she loved. She was always excited to see fireworks on her birthday and to see Christmas lights on the celebrated day of her Savior's birth. She loved making holidays fun for the whole family. She would make home made chocolate bunnies for Easter, dress up like a ghost on Halloween to spook her grandchildren, and secretly ring sleigh bells to give the impression of an impending visit from Santa.

She was a woman of many talents. She was known for her pies and other baked goods. Her sewing was excellent, proven by her ability to sew one of her daughter's wedding dresses. She was especially skilled at tongue twisters and pig Latin. She loved to bowl and to travel.

Mabel is the beloved mother of Carol and Karen; grandmother to Heather, David, Steven, and Phillip; and great-grandmother to Austin and Jack.

Mabel begins her temporary rest on September 27, 2010 at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Morgantown, WV next to her dear mother. Here she will rise on the day of Resurrection, when we will all be reunited.

  1. From the moment we first met her, we knew that Grandma Reed was one-of-a-kind, a lovely christian woman whose cheerful countenance remains as fresh in our minds as the day we first saw her ten years ago. Although small and delicate, she had a commanding presence we still talk about. But really, words fail us when we try to describe many of the ways we admired her.

How grateful we are to Cheryl for bringing David, Heather, Karen, Jack, and Mabel into our lives... Truly, the best of the best.
